4×6 Print Size in Pixels

A 4 × 6 inch print needs 1200 × 1800 pixels at 300 PPI. It measures 10.16 × 15.24 cm and has a 2:3 aspect ratio.

4 × 6 in at 300 PPI: 1200 × 1800 px (2.2 MP)

At 240 PPI: 960 × 1440 px · at 150 PPI: 600 × 900 px

4×6 in pixels at each density

Multiply each inch dimension by the density. The results are exact because both sides are whole inches.

Presets set the finished print size and unit. PPI and rounding remain your choice.

The desired finished width, before any bleed.

The desired finished height, before any bleed.

Applies to both dimensions.

Use your print provider’s requirement when available.

Nearest is a conventional approximation; round up meets at least the target PPI on both axes.

Use a decimal point, without commas. Physical lengths and PPI accept up to 4 decimal places.

Nearest-pixel rounding can fall slightly below the target on one axis. Use Round up when the target is a strict minimum.

This is the canvas size. Changing a file’s PPI metadata alone does not create these pixels.

Will my photo fit 4×6 without cropping?

4 × 6 inches is the classic snapshot size. Its 2:3 proportion matches most camera sensors, so a typical 3:2 photo fills it without cropping. In centimeters it is 10.16 × 15.24 cm, close to but not exactly the metric 10 × 15 cm print.

How many megapixels does a 4×6 print need?

At 300 PPI the print needs 2.2 megapixels after any crop; at 240 PPI, 1.4 MP; at 150 PPI, 0.5 MP. These are arithmetic targets, not a promise of print quality: focus, noise and viewing distance matter too.

Changing an image’s PPI setting without resampling only changes its intended print size. Read what changing DPI actually does before upsizing a file.
